Step into a journey where Cape Town’s mountains meet the endless blue of the ocean.
This walking adventure takes you from the vibrant surf haven of Muizenberg, famous for its colourful beach huts and lively energy, to the charming fishing village of Kalk Bay, steeped in history and brimming with coastal character.
We’ll meet at the bustling Star Bucks Cafe in Muizenberg, where the salty air already hints at the ocean’s pull. As we set off along the False Bay promenade, the scenery unfolds — surfers dancing on the waves to one side, rugged cliffs and mountain slopes to the other. The rhythm of the sea sets our pace as we pass St. James, home to the iconic painted beach huts and a tidal pool loved by locals for generations. This is where we might pause to breathe in the fresh sea air, snap a few photos, and watch for playful dolphins or even migrating whales in season.
From here, the coastal path leads us onward — a well-maintained walkway dotted with benches, perfect for moments of quiet reflection or simply soaking in the sweeping ocean views. Every step offers something new: the scent of salt on the breeze, the cry of seabirds overhead, the glint of sunlight on the waves.
Arriving in Kalk Bay, the atmosphere shifts to a blend of working harbour and bohemian charm. Fishing boats bob in the water as seals lounge lazily on the pier. We’ll wander through boutiques and artisan studios, where you’ll find everything from hand-crafted jewellery to vibrant local art. At the harbour, the red-and-white Kalk Bay Lighthouse stands proudly at the edge of the breakwater, a picture-perfect spot for photos — especially when the light catches the water just right.
No trip to Kalk Bay is complete without sampling its famous fresh seafood. We’ll stop at the beloved Kalky’s, where locals and travellers alike gather for generous portions of fish and chips, best enjoyed with the sea breeze in your hair. For those with an artistic eye, Kalk Bay’s galleries — such as Kalk Bay Modern and Artvark Gallery — offer treasures to admire or take home. And if the day calls for it, we can finish with a refreshing swim at Woolley’s Tidal Pool, a serene spot where the ocean meets the stone.
When the adventure winds down, you can choose to finish here in Kalk Bay, lingering to explore more at your own pace, or retrace our steps back to Muizenberg for one last seaside stroll. From either point, we’ll help you arrange an Uber back to your hotel, leaving you with sandy shoes, a sun-kissed glow, and a heart full of coastal memories.
This is more than just a walk — it’s a living postcard of Cape Town’s False Bay coast, where every wave and cobblestone tells a story.
